Conversation that I think sums up most young Liberals.

I had a conversation with a friend who I hadn't talked to in over a year.  This person is intelligent and well read.  They are college educated and capable of making good decisions.  This person is proud of where they are from (Vermont).  In other words this is an example of a good young American.  As usual I decided to see where they stood on politics.  What I got was a good assessment of what was wrong in this country... its pretty obvious to see the Iraq war, healthcare, etc. are a mess.  What isn't easy to see is how to clean it up.  My friend thought the government needed to step into action, invade the private market and socialize things (not their exact words).  I asked if they understood the economic consequences of this... and their answer was not surprising but frustrating - They didn't think their ideas were practical but they didn't care.  In economic terms we think about this kind of view in this way: in the short run we could probably wing it and go into massive debt, but it would not be sustainable in the long run.  I think the problem with liberals in general is that for the most part they are too short sighted and don't analyze what is practical in the long run.  Another problem with most liberals is that they don't have a firm grasp on economics.  Both these problems are worse in young liberals.  Wake up and smell the coffee guys!  China, the EU, Brazil are not going to pay our debt forever.  We need someone to fight congressional dem and rep spenders.  Someone who doesn't care whose toes he steps on as long as he protects our tax dollars.  Someone like John McCain.

You know how many earmarks McCain has requested in his 20+ years in Congress?  3 - and all of those barely qualify as earmarks.  Obama and Clinton have more than that in one year on the job.
